This N That

I dove in and started Pat Sloan's Splendid Sampler II Quilt Along.  I really enjoyed the first Splendid Sampler, so I knew I wanted to make the second one also. There are twenty 6-inch blocks , one block per week. Twenty blocks is manageable, right? You can find the Splendid Sampler II here. The blocks are designed by a team of designers, and there are several different techniques; piecing, paper piecing, applique, and embroidery. They also provide links for instructional videos.  I even have a place to hang this when it is finished--I think it will be a perfect fit on the quilt rack in the kitchen.
Here are my first two blocks:
I still need to finish block 3-Clamshells.  Hopefully I can sit still long enough to finish in the next day or two.

I'm also in clean up mode---my family is coming to visit for our wedding (yes, ME!!) in three weeks and I really need to get control of my sewing room mess. I'm donating extra "stuff" to our guild's next quilt show boutique. I have a box in the closet to collect those things as I come across them. I'm  placing books and magazines that don't really interest me right into the box. I'm deconstructing some items---purses and blocks I made as class samples or things I didn't really like. I'm returning the scraps to my scrap bin. It is really quite satisfying to take something apart and put the pieces away.

I'm also recycling patterns that I printed and don't really want or need, and I'm placing loose patterns with the notebook--maybe one day I'll actually place them IN the notebook, but for now that's as close as I'm going to get.

  2. Dots are the best for a cheerful quilt. I cannot resist them! Times change and so do quilters--it's good to get in there and sweep out the unloved or unused every once in awhile.
